Dr. Simon Levy, Chairman of Idesia Investment Fund

Dr. Simón  Levy has kindly agreed to share his views on the matter with ANZMEX membership and reflect on what needs to happen, what are the local and international risks, and what are the opportunities Mexico needs to face to achieve this.

Dr. Simón Levy was appointed Undersecretary of Tourism of Mexican Government starting December 2018 until May 2019 by Mexican President Andres Manuel López Obrador. Prior to this, he was appointed as Mexico City CEO of Investment & Development Agency of the Mexico City Government, PROCDMX, starting December 2012 until December 2018, where he raised $650 million USD for public-private infrastructure investments.  As an Entrepreneur, he was the Chairman of the Board of Latinasia Group – (2004-2011) a leading investment fund between China and Latin America. Due to his achievements, he was recognized as a Young Global Leader of World Economic Forum (WEF) in 2013, Global Entrepreneur by the World Entrepreneurship Forum 2013 and World Cities Summit Young Leader 2015. Member of WEF Global Agenda Council.  Under his achievements were the Urban and Mobility of the Future Strategy and Smart Cities of the Future.

He has a Bachelor’s in Law from National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) (2001), a Specialty in Chinese Law Renmin University of China (2004), he was the first Mexican attorney to get a work permit in People’s Republic of China (2006), he has Master in International Management at Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de Mexico (ITAM) (2010) and an MBA from School of Management from Tecnológico de Monterrey (EGADE ITESM) (2012), a PhD in Public/Private Partnerships and Urban Economy (UNAM). Additionally, he conducted postdoctoral studies at Yale University, Lee Kwan Yew Public Management School, John F. Kennedy School of Harvard University.

Moreover, since 2006, he has served as Professor of Law Faculty of UNAM and of International Management and Entrepreneurship (Tec de Monterrey, 2009-2011). Author of 9 books, including: “Growth Without Debt” (Porrua, 2017) prized as Economy Book of the year by Sociedad Mexicana de Geografía y Estadística (Mexican Geography and Statistics Society), his first historic novel, “Neonao” (Plaza y Valdés, 2012), “The Microglobal Age” (Plaza y Valdés, Tec de Monterrey 2007), “Towards China” (ISEF, 2006), “China the New World Factory” (ISEF, 2004). He founded the China-Mexico Lecture and Fellowship at the National University of México, and also founded the first Mexican Think-Thank, “Agendasia”. Columnist at the leader financial Mexican newspaper “El Financiero”. Currently, he is the Chairman of Ideasia Investment Fund and serves as Chief Resilience Officer of WAMS, The World Academy of Medical Sciences.
